NJ Aviation, Editorial, Travel and Stock photographer David Nuss is the full staff of dnPictures. Photographing since 1968, his career spans film and digital media and is broadening scope into video.
Photography and aviation have been contant companions in David Nuss' career, taking turns as hobbies and employment. Beginning with airplane flying as the president of his high school aviation club and a desire to fly for a living, David pursued both interests into junior college in California. His photography was award-winning from high school days, and he worked part time at small local newspapers and in photographic retail.
Photojournalism took the lead and David Nuss earned his Bachelor of Arts, continuing newspaper work at the Mercury-News and Statesman-Journal. A number of assignments involving helicopters renewed his interest in aviation and David was accepted into military flight training.
During military assignments flying helicopters in combat and training trips around the world, David Nuss' interest in travel became stronger, and between deployments, Kodachrome was a frequent travel partner.
At his last duty station, David Nuss devoted himself to produce a black-and-white photo documentary of the unit, blending analog photography and computer skills with writing into storytelling. After exposing dozens of rolls of Tri-X at all kinds of unit events, from the mundane to official, and many darkroom hours later, David scanned prints and laid out a 100-page book using Quark Xpress and had it printed locally for his colleagues' enjoyment.
Next, David Nuss settled into the civlian flying life by moving to the NYC area with the goal of becoming a corporate pilot for the rest of his career. In only nine years, David was employed in charter, fractional, and corporate work in the Sikorsky 76 helicopter, rising to one of the best jobs in the area while also working online towards a Master's Degree and serving on the board and as chairman of the regional professional helicopter pilots' group, ERHC. David is currently webmaster and newsletter editor for ERHC.
Digital photography was calling and David Nuss was listening, so when his corporate flight department was closed, David founded a single-person LLC with dnPictures as a way to bring his eye, storytelling abilities, solid skills and techniques together to provide unique products for customers' delight.
While currently focused on Aviation, Editorial, Travel and Stock photography from his northern New Jersey base, David Nuss has been trained in photojournalism, which is by nature a generalist's field. Which is not a bad thing when it comes to teaching, conquering challenges and finding solutions in areas such as:
