The work we do for you
Photographers, like other artists, produce creative works in exchange for the compensation they need to live. Those works are the property of the artist, and the use of any copies of the works is according to license terms agreed upon by the artist and customer.
The broader topic
This website is copyright © 2009 dn Pictures/David Nuss, with all rights reserved. You must receive written permission for any re-use or copying of any content on this site. There's a good chance such permission will involve a license for use and some kind of consideration exchange.
We take the issue seriously, as everyone should. The U.S. Constitution recognizes the value of works of authorship and gives Congress the authority to enact laws protecting the use of those works for their authors, and guess what, Congress did just that. Originally the meaning was quite literal, that the right to make a copy belonged with the author of the work. Today it's easy to see that 'right-click to download' is making a copy of a work, so you need permission to make that click.
So, don't mess with copyright law. Creative content producers of all kinds produce things of value and deserve to be compensated for their work.
Respect the copy rights of authors by seeking out ownership of photos and other creative works that you would like to continue to enjoy. In the case of online photos, look at the web page for signs of copyright; look at the metadata (sometimes called "file info") embedded in photos to determine whose permission you need and what the terms are for copying and any re-use. Otherwise, you're stealing the material the author uses to make a living.
Some of the work presented here in portfolio form is not for sale or reuse in any form, since the images were made while employed by a publication.
